Here’s what others are saying about the 40 Days of Purpose. |
About the Ministry & Missions Fairs...
“The response has been positive. For the first time, members saw and experienced the vibrancy of ministries in God's service.” Ho Boon Tiong, Organiser, Ministry & Missions Fairs
“Smiling faces, excited hearts... seeing the church work together as a family just warms m heart.” Ng Shiping, Young Adults Ministry
“Not everyone will 'dare' to approach the church to serve. The Ministry Fair provided a very unthreatening platform for people to find out more about the different ministries they could join.” Pat Sim, small group member, who signed up as a BMCK Volunteer
“Had a fantastic time... The joy of the Lord was manifested clearly in many. Praise the Lord!.” Anthony Lam, Communications Ministry
“The Ministry Fair was definitely a positive experience and a good platform to excite the church members about what God is doing in BMC, attracting them to avail themselves for the various ministries. It was also a good day for new members like me to get to feel the heartbeat of the church leaders, to get to know others and to serve.” Lee Tsui Lin, new BMC member
“Wow! What a wonderful day. All tired but fruitful. Praise be to God. The Worship & Music Ministry has a total of about 60 people, and still counting... Amen!.” Francis Lim, Worship & Music Ministry
“Missions work – it’s my passion and desire to serve in this area. It comprises community service - something I believe God has placed in my heart to do.” Chen Ai Mei, 31, Signed up for short-term missions trip at the Missions Fair
“This is not the end; it is only the beginning – the first step to encourage BMC members to participate in God’s mission.” Benjamin Hong, 37, Organiser, Missions Fair
Bedok Methodist Church...
“Besides discovering that I love God more, I now read the Bible regularly. I hope, in the days to come, I would be able to move from a family-focused life to a God-focused life. Jennifer Wong, 65, first time small group member
“I used to think that Christianity is accepting Christ as Saviour, read the Bible and live a righteous life. I tend to opt for a domesticated version of the gospel – wanted only enough to make me happy and secure, not too much that it really affected my life. After going through the PDL I realized that Christian life actually begins after accepting Christ. Baptism is the first step of obedience. We are called to love and serve God. We worship God by serving believers and non-believers. The alignment of my old self to a godly nature will have to be developed through the renewing of my mind, working from inside out by the Holy Spirit. The temptation of going back to my comfort zone still surfaces at time and it is only with God’s Word and His help that I am able to overcome it. ‘Let us not love in words or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.’ (1John 3:18)” Jane Nah, first-time small group member
"I’m very excited to learn about God’s purpose for my life. At first I wondered if God could really transform my life. After we started on the PDL book, I felt God working in my life. I trust Him. I want to obey His Words. God has changed my thoughts and strengthened my faith. Now I have a smooth relationship with my employer. I have many friends in church. I may feel lonely sometimes but I know I am not alone. God is in my life. Look at my heart - I’m happy." Rowena V Alvarado
“God has helped me to change my attitude and my character, and to learn to be more like Him.” Emma Koh, 78, small group member
“At the end of the day, when all has been said and done, all I can do is to trust God completely… Instead of trying harder, I learnt to trust more. That's what He wants me to do – to make the most out of what I have, and trust Him to produce fruit in my life." Petrina Yong, 18, Young Adults Ministry
“I’ve learnt that I must be bold in Christ and just serve even though I may not have confidence in my abilities.” Adeline Lim, 54, small group member
“The best things in life are the simple things that matter to God.” Ashley Lim, 37, small group facilitator
The verse Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” is very special to me because the Lord healed me of the hurts and pain which I had carried for nine months. When I was meditating on this verse, something changed in my heart. And after I read the PDL chapter on “Restoring Broken Fellowship”, I quickly sent an SMS to the person who I felt had wronged me. It did not matter whose fault it was, I said sorry to the person. At last, after nine months, the person replied to me. Now I am totally relieved of the hurt and I’m at peace. Brenda S Lao, small group member
“I have learnt the discipline of putting aside time every day to read the Bible, and also to meditate on the verses.” Nancy Thean, 78, small group member
“I have learnt how to be a real Christian. I’ve found the true meaning of life. I’ve gained amazing in-depth knowledge of life. Many things happened during these 40 days. My children fell sick with hand-foot-mouth disease, fever, etc. I was very tired and stressed. But God did a miracle for my family on Friday, 20 May, the last day of my 40 Days study. Both my children recovered totally and my husband, who had been looking for a job for the last six months, was offered a new job. God is great!” Jean Ong, small group member
“This spiritual journey has enlightened me on how God has created us for a purpose and He is preparing us for life in eternity. My spiritual life has grown as I make an effort to deepen my spiritual knowledge by reading the Bible more, researching and reflecting on His Word, as I worship God more and learn to be more Christlike. The small group’s open sharing and prayer has also taught me what real Christian fellowship is all about.” Lilian Teo, small group member
“The 40 Days of Purpose has changed me a lot. I have grown spiritually and have learnt to depend on Christ in many areas of my life. I want to continue to study His Word and become more like Christ. Now I realize the importance of fellowship. We cannot be self-centred and need to speak up. We need to pray to the Lord and trust in Him and Him alone.” Emily Ng, first time small group member
“After going through the 40 Days of Purpose, my understanding about who God is and where I fit into His plans and purposes has become clearer. I thank God for using me as a small group leader for elderly ladies and to be an encourager.” Evy Tan, small group facilitator
“The Lord has given me new friends in church.” — Patricia Tan, 70, Small Group member
“God has changed my thoughts, fed my spiritual hunger and thirst and strengthened my faith.” — Willie Tan, 51, Small Group member
“When we were into the second week of studying the Purpose-Driven Life book, I pondered over the content of Day 14 (When God Seems Distant). Suddenly I felt so remorseful and was led to confess. I realized that I not only did not praise God in times of pain, I doubted Him. I didn’t face up to the test of faith. I started out seeking God and didn’t know I had gone into seeking an experience instead. I didn’t trust Him enough. He is faithful and yet I didn’t hold on to His word…I thank God and the church for this retreat. Ever since I started on this, I’m able to look at life from a different perspective. Unlike before, I’m now able to sing everyday – not just any song, but songs of praise to the Lord.”— Charlotte Tan, 40’s, Small Group member
BMC’s pastor-in-charge, Rev Vincent Goh: “I am excited and look forward to the 40 Days of Purpose Spiritual Retreat. This will not be an ‘event’ or ‘campaign’ but a spiritual retreat, drawing our members to encounter and experience the presence of God.”
Alicia Cheo, Lay Ministry Staff, Small Groups: "I see many people being set free. As they begin to understand their position in God, they feel accepted and they are free to be themselves in Christ. Even the quiet ones are opening up and sharing in their small groups!” .
David Tan, Architect, Small Group member: “The theme for Week 2 was Worship. The key verse from Romans 12:1-2 speaks about presenting ourselves as an offering to God and not to conform to our culture. All along, I’ve been brought up to be independent and self-reliant. However I’ve learnt that in my relationship with God, I have to go the other way, to grow to be more dependent on Him, a God who loves me.”
Others...
Billy Graham and Franklin Graham: “Make sure you’re not missing the point of you life – read this book! The Purpose Driven Life will guide you to greatness – through living the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.”
Guan Yeow Kwang, chairman of Foochow Methodist Church organising committee, shared that the church grew amazingly from 15 to 65 cell groups, for a 107-year old church “that had never gone beyond 16 cell groups before.”
