The Gospel Encounters: Grace at Galilee
Reference
- John 21:1-11

As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him and jumped into the water. – John 21:7

Jesus was no stranger to betrayal, having been on the receiving end from Judas and Peter. For us, it can take place from either perspective.

Betrayal can happen in marriages, friendships, families and so on. It happens when someone promises but fails to deliver. It manifests itself in many forms and ways but it is in principle, an act of undervaluing someone's trust in you.

Second Chance
But praise God, he has given us a flipside to betrayal called “second chances”. And as long as we have relationships between imperfect people, we will need our second chances.

Jesus gave Peter a second chance at Galilee. He jumped at the chance and in return received full forgiveness from Jesus. Judas didn’t get a second chance and his guilt got the better of him. Sometimes, second chances come a long time later as in the case of Judah. But when it does come, seize it with urgency like Peter. Don’t hesitate.

Reflection
If you have betrayed God's trust, this is the day to seek His hand of grace, dive into the waters and swim to the waiting King.

If you have betrayed another's trust, this is the day to seek forgiveness and restoration. Even if the person is dead and gone, or of a long distance away, through God, we can achieve that peace of forgiveness.
