THE LORD’S PRAYER

A Perspective by Benjamin Yeo

The Lord's Prayer is familiar to many of us.

May we continue to live the rich blessings of the beautiful prayer
our Lord Jesus Christ taught us to pray.

Position – Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name…

God places us in the intimate position of children bonding with our Father when we come to Him in prayer, in spite of us being fallen creatures approaching a Holy Creator.

Purpose – Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

We recognise that the purpose of prayer is to do His will. So we seek to know our Father and His will for us when we pray.

Provision – Give us this day our daily bread.

We trust in our Father’s sufficient provision and go on to focus on doing His will and not on our needs.

Pardon – Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

We ask for pardon for our sins and we forgive those who wronged us. We give and receive a taste of God’s grace when we forgive.

Protection – And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

We ask for protection from temptation within and evil without as we humbly acknowledge our weakness and recognise that we can do the will of God only in His strength.

Praise – For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

We naturally end our prayer with praise for Him after communing with our great Father!
