Sermon
Title: “Teach Us to Number Our Days”
Scripture
Text : Psalm 90
“Teach
us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12
Introduction
“How
many of you know if you’ll be in this world tomorrow?”
A
question that was received with laughter but at the end of the
sermon, would teach us to number our days.
Rev
Nga related some of his experiences of sharing the gospel with
people throughout Asia. He had one friend that was a non-Christian
whom he had invited to church. Rev Nga asked the friend to take
a stand and become a Christian. The friend told him that he believed
in Jesus Christ but he had plenty of time to become a Christian,
he did not want to make the commitment just yet. The next day,
he perished in a tragic bus accident. These types of incidences
happen frequently. We think we have lots of time to accomplish
different things in our lives, but we never know when our time
on earth will be over.
We
are very presumptuous – sending invitations to friends for
upcoming parties and weddings. How do we know we will be here?
We are living on borrowed time and sometimes it seems that our
ambitions are completely secular. We work hard to become the best
in our field of work, climbing corporate ladders, seeking recognition
and more money. How many of us want to be millionaires or billionaires?
Most of us aim for monetary success, but how much is your soul
worth? Isn’t it worth more than the whole world? More than
what we can attain through our own hard work?
Share
the Gospel
Think
about how effective it would be if everyone shared the Gospel
with their friends and relatives. If today was your friends’last
day on earth, would you not want to make sure that you shared
the Gospel with them? Would not that be the most precious gift
you could give them? If you knew how to number your days, you
would share the Gospel today. Not tomorrow, because tomorrow might
not be yours.
Sharing
the Gospel doesn’t mean that you have to be a preacher.
Simply go to God in prayer every morning and ask him to teach
you to number your days. Spend time reading and praying. Pray
that people you know, people you do not know, will worship and
honor God.
Judgement
Day
Do
not waste anymore time. Up until now you have done a lot. A lot
of what you wanted to do. Now, do what God wants you to do. Think
of 5 people you want saved. Write their names down and put them
in your daily prayers. Don’t give up on them because one
day your prayers will be answered. Let these people see how God
has worked in your life and is working in your life every single
day. This is sharing the gospel.
Prayer
Response
Heavenly
Father, help us to see the urgency in spreading the Gospel. Help
us to number our days so that we can use each precious moment
to fulfill your purpose. We pray that we can live a life that
will bring glory to your name and joy to our neighbors’
lives. We pray and ask all of this in Jesus’ name. Amen
