Devotional
For the Week 06 September 2004
Family
Devotions
Raising spiritual generations for Christ begins in our home.
Begin family devotions with your children no matter how young
they are. You can have it after dinner or before bedtime.
Try to set a consistent schedule as much as possible. You
can do the following during your devotions:
Worship God. Sing a familiar
children’s worship song together as a family, such as He’s
Able, Jesus Loves Me This I Know.
Pray for each other.
Thank God for everything. Take turns to pray for each other’s
needs. For the young ones, it could be a simple prayer such
as ‘Dear Jesus, bless Grandma with good health.’
Study the scriptures.
For story-guided devotions, you can choose a bible story or
passage to read. Discuss and apply the theme of the passage
to your lives as individuals or as a family. For topic or
theme-guided devotions, you can choose a topic such as ‘honesty’
and find a Bible story which fits that theme. You can then
discuss the theme, read the story to see how the characters
dealt with that theme.
Do an activity.
After studying Noah’s story, you can reconstruct it as a family
with a basin of water, a big boat, dolls and animals. You
can also illustrate God’s promise of blessing Abraham with
descendants by getting the family to draw Abraham and paste
stickers of stars on a large piece of paper. For older children,
they can pen down their personal reflections on the topic
in a prayer journal.
