Sermon Title: Blessed to Bless
Scripture Text: Genesis 12: 1-3
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you, so that I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you and I will make your name great. So, be a blessing and I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse; that all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
Introduction
The call of God is for everyone saved by faith. There are two commands in today’s scripture text (Genesis 12:1 -3)
1st command – Get out of your comfort zone
a)
|
The Lord called Abram to get out of his country, his people and his father’s household so that He could bless him – He would provide (land). Was Abram willing to take Him at His word?
This meant that Abram had to leave everything that he was familiar with and go to a land that he did not know. He had to get out of his comfort zone.
He was willing to put his future into a God he trusted. How about you? Is God calling you to come out of your comfort zone and go to a ministry you are unfamiliar with? Are you willing to step out and trust God?
A speaker shared her own experiences of God’s provision. When she went to study in United States, God always provided her with return tickets from United States to Singapore to visit her family. She also shared that we should trust God for our provision in times of recession.
|
b)
|
He promised Abram posterity (a great nation). Abram was old and his wife was barren and yet God promised him a great nation. Abram trusted God and God, indeed, made a great nation through him.
When we trust God in the ministry he gives us, he will cause it to multiply biologically and spiritually.
|
c) |
He promised Abram power (a great name). Fame does not come from men but from God. As Abram trusted God, and gave glory to Him, God honored him. What are we building our names for? Are we working to glorify God or ourselves? |
2nd Command – So Be a Blessing
The reason behind being a blessing is so that all peoples will be blessed through us (verses 2 – 3). How can we do this? We can pray and seek God’s guidance on being sensitive to the needs of the people around us.
Conclusion.
What does God want me to do today? Is there any need he wants me to meet? Allow the Lord to speak to you. Listen and obey.
Prayer Response
Lord, thank you for Your love for me. Let me be sensitive to Your calling. Let me hear your still, small voice and obey what you want me to do. Help me to be a blessing so that You may bless others through me. Amen
