The
Lord’s Prayer:
‘For Yours is the kingdom,
the power and the glory forever. Amen.’
The
final verse of the Lord’s prayer completes the circle by bringing us
back to how it started – with a reminder of the Glory and Power of God,
which is the foundation for basing the rest of the Lord’s prayer.
For
Yours is the Kingdom
This acknowledgement that the Kingdom belongs to God also implies that
He is the King. And as the King, he demands our complete submission
and allegiance. That means we submit control to Him, yielding to Him
and obeying His wishes. And as loyal subjects in any kingdom, we cannot
yield to another king at the same time. As Jesus says in Matthew 6:24,
one cannot serve two masters. As we make this declaration, we have to
be mindful to let go of our lives and yield control to our King and
submit to Him wholly.
For
Yours is the Power
God is the Almighty and His power is absolute. This recognition of his
omnipotency should be sufficient for us to completely trust Him in everything.
There is nothing He cannot do, if He is willing. Thus if our prayers
and petitions are not granted, this statement reaffirms our faith in
Him that since He is all powerful, there must be a divine
reason why He has chosen not to grant our prayers. When we pray this
phrase, we are not only acknowledging His power, we are also submitting
to it, and to His will to use it as He pleases. Once we accept this
fact, we will learn to trust God, even if our prayers don’t turn out
the way we expect.
For
Yours is the Glory
All Glory belongs to God and when we pray this phrase, we remind ourselves
to render all Glory to Him at all times. If we take a moment to ponder,
we’ll realize that our material possessions, our jobs, our time, our
lives and even our salvation are all given from His abundant grace.
Thus, in all we do, we should give God the glory and not claim it for
ourselves. We should continue to do so everyday, in good times and in
bad, we give God the Glory because He deserves it.
Amen
As we conclude this prayer, we underline it with the affirmation that
God is our King and we serve only Him, we trust him unreservedly and
honor Him with all the Glory that He deserves. Amen.
O
LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in
perfect faithfulness you have done marvelous things, things planned
long ago. ” - Isaiah 25:1
