Serving God

But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart;
consider what great things he has done for you. 1 Samuel 12:24

When it comes to service, many of us may still be waiting for God to call us before we make a choice of whether we should give up more of our personal time, labour and money.

We wonder, ‘What is this calling? When and in what form is it going to come?’

There is a statement which throws great light on what a calling is: “We are not called to a task, a mission, a job, or a ministry. We are called to a relationship with our Heavenly Father.” (Henry & Tom Blackaby, The Man God Uses)

In other words, your ministry focus may change many times throughout your life but your call never changes.

Isn’t that a great revelation? The highest calling for each and every one of us is to love God our Father. Serving Him and doing good work will then stem from a natural desire when we have an intimate relationship with Him. Christ was that perfect example of a son who loves His Father so much that He came to serve and not to be served.

Do you love your Heavenly Father? Would you serve Him today?

Prayer Response:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me. Because You first loved me, so shall I love others. I make myself available today. Please remove any fear, doubt and hesitation in my heart to serve You and Your people. Help me serve in sincere love, joy and faith.
