What Does Post-Easter Mean To Me?

Scripture Text: Acts 1:1-11

Every year churches in Singapore and all parts of the world celebrate Easter. In many churches, Easter has been considered as the most important event in history. Why is this so? What does post-Easter mean to you personally? To me it means one word – POWER. It is the surpassing greatness of His resurrection power towards us who believe (Ephesians 1:18-21). This means that His power is available to us. We can be powerful in Christ. Do you know what that means? For example a policeman is powerful and can stop cars with one arm, because of the uniform he wears. Just strip him of his uniform and his position will be powerless. In other words, he is powerful because of the authority vested upon him by the court of law. Power comes from the authority vested to us, when we take charge and exercise our influence. God is the most powerful authority of them all.

To me this power means three things:-

1. The Power of God in overcoming sin
2. The Power of God in continuing His redemptive work
3. The Power of God in establishing the new heaven

The Power of God in overcoming sin
In Romans 6:23 it is written that the wages of sin is death, but Jesus Christ has conquered death through His resurrection. With this victory, He overcame sin. If there was no resurrection, then our preaching and faith would be in vain. We would be found to be false witnesses of God. We would still remain in our sins. Praise God that Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead and is alive.

The Power of God in continuing His redemptive Work
The disciples were told to remain in Jerusalem to receive the Holy Spirit. They received the Holy Spirit as promised and became witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. We thank God that when we accept Jesus as our savior into our hearts, we are given the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. The Holy Spirit guides and leads us, to transform us and have a closer relationship with Him. When we seek Him, His kingdom, His righteousness and His holiness we will not sin against Him by rebellion and ignorance. He also gives us the desire to reach out to the lost souls.

The Power of God in establishing the new heaven
We must start being soul-gainers. We need to witness to the lost and make it the greatest event in the lives of those whom we share the gospel message with.

Prayer Response

Lord, I thank you that you suffered and died on the cross for me. Thank you for overcoming death and resurrecting on the third day. Thank you for the hope that you have given to me. Now I can face death and know that there is eternal life for me. Grant me the desire to be a witness for you and bring more souls into your kingdom. Amen
